"Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower." Steve Jobs
What if? Look around you. Whether you are in Western Pennsylvania or Timbuktu, everything that was built, everything that you use and every product you have ever purchased started out with those two words. Without those words, your way of life would not be possible. And things that are taken for granted, like houses, automobiles, electronics and dare I say, indoor plumbing - Yikes! - would be reserved for an idealistic view of what could be. But luckily they do exist! And we can thank those two little words for just about everything. "What if?"
But it's often a long journey from concept to an actual product. So just how did all of those products get on the shelf?
It's pretty safe to say that at some point in a products development, it relied pretty heavily on the services of a good machine shop and their prototyping department.
Prototyping is the link between a great idea and a working product. And finding a machine shop that understands your concept is crucial to successful development. While prototyping's job is to delive a working mockup of a product, it really encompases a lot more than that.
A few benefits of good prototyping are:
* Offer different materials to make the product better, cheaper or both
* Eliminate steps in assembly resulting in a more economical product
So, if you want to be a leader in your industry, maybe your first step shold be finding a good machine shop!
